Another possible gambit: keeping a "food diary", a logbook of everything one eats. I haven't tried it, but I'm told that it's amazingly effective, even if one doesn't otherwise consciously try to follow a regime of dieting ... apparently it makes one aware of all the random calories that come in throughout the day, and that helps ... ^z
